Poly Furniture FAQs

Will the Colors Fade On My Poly Furniture?

Our Outdoor furniture is made of high-density poly lumber which is UV stabilized colored plastic. The color is solid throughout the material and is very fade resistant! Northwood Industries furniture is protected by advanced ultra-violet stabilizers, so while no material is entirely resistant to the effects of sunlight, poly is close. Everything we have, cars, houses, etc. fades in the sun. But you can expect very minor fading in poly furniture. It is a little more noticeable in a few of the brighter colors like bright red, yellow, etc.

What is Poly Furniture Made Of?

EVOVLE® Poly Lumber is a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic derived from POST-consumer waste such as milk jugs and plastic packaging that would otherwise end up in a landfill! The material is then cleaned in a decontamination process to an extremely high purity level. The purified recycled plastic is formulated with Ultra-Violet (UV) Stabilizers and color pigments, and formed into various shapes and profiles used to create beautiful and more importantly virtually maintenance-free furniture! It is built to last for years!

Where Is The Poly Furniture Made?

All of our furniture is hand-crafted in the USA by high-quality craftsmen who share our level of commitment and service.

If Assembly Is Required, Is it Difficult?

We work to make assembly a breeze for you. All furniture is at least partially assembled. All that can be previously assembled has been, so that all you may need to do is attach legs, arms, back, etc. Assembly instructions are included with each shipped item. All hardware is included and holes are predrilled for easy assembly. If you are in an area where regional home delivery is available from Northwood Industries, it will arrive fully assembled.

Can Poly Patio Furniture Be Stained or Painted?

Our furniture was designed with a solid core of color to eliminate the need for painting or staining. Stain or paint will not penetrate the surface because the product doesn’t absorb moisture. Therefore, stains or paints will tend to flake off the surface.

Will My Poly Furniture Get Hot In the Sun?

Not very. Poly will not absorb as much heat as wood and will not reflect it like metal, so it remains significantly cooler in the sun. Poly has been used for playground slides, where it remains cool to the touch and doesn’t splinter or burr.

How Is Poly Furniture Affected By Temperature Fluctuations?

Fluctuations in temperature will cause it to expand and contract along its length. Tabletops, for example, have a tendency to move slightly in constant, direct sunlight, but it does not affect the stability or structural integrity of the furniture.

How Does Poly Recycled Plastic Compare to Composite Material

Composite products, such as composite lumber, are made with wood fillers and other additives. These fillers absorb moisture and chemicals, making them susceptible to staining, mold, rot, peeling and blistering. Poly is a truly durable, low maintenance product that retains its original appearance for decades.

How Should I Care For My Outdoor Poly Furniture

Washing Northwood Industries Poly Furniture with a hose or a brush is about all that is needed under normal circumstances. You can use a mixture of bleach and water (1/3 part bleach to 2/3 parts water) to clean stubborn stains on the material.
